Code of Conduct - Coach
Nelson Suburbs Football Club establishes guidelines to ensure coaches uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and respect for players, officials, parents, and the game itself. Our coaches support and respect the values and vision of Nelson Suburbs FC.
1. Player Development
* Prioritise the safety, well-being, and development of each player.
* Focus on teaching skills, tactics, and sportsmanship over winning at all costs.
* Provide equal opportunities for all players to participate and improve.
2. Respect for Players
* Treat all players with respect, regardless of their skill level, background, or behaviour.
* Avoid any form of physical, verbal, or emotional abuse.
* Encourage positive reinforcement to build confidence and self-esteem.
3. Role Modelling
* Exhibit exemplary behaviour, on and off the field.
* Avoid using profanity, abusive language, or engaging in unsportsmanlike conduct.
* Refrain from consuming alcohol, drugs, or tobacco during practices, games, or any team events.
4. Communication
* Maintain open, honest, and respectful communication with players, parents, and officials.
* Be approachable and receptive to feedback or concerns from players and parents.
5. Knowledge of the Game
* Strive for continuous improvement by learning and applying modern coaching techniques and tactics.
* Understand and abide by the rules and regulations of the game and relevant leagues.
6. Fair Play
* Promote and enforce fair play, both in training and competitive situations.
* Discourage unsportsmanlike behaviour, cheating, or disrespect toward opponents or officials.
7. Health and Safety
* Ensure players are physically and mentally prepared for participation.
* Avoid overtraining and recognize the signs of injury, fatigue, or distress.
* Promote hydration, proper nutrition, and overall healthy habits.
8. Interaction with Officials
* Show respect for referees and officials, even in disagreement.
* Refrain from questioning or criticising officiating decisions publicly.
* Encourage players and parents to respect officials.
9. Parental Involvement
* Work collaboratively with parents to support the player's development.
* Set clear expectations regarding parental behaviour at games and practices.
* Address concerns in a respectful and constructive manner.
10. Commitment to Integrity
* Avoid conflicts of interest, favouritism, or bias in team selection and management.
* Abide by the policies and ethical standards of the club, league, and governing bodies.
* Serve as a positive ambassador for the sport and organisation.
